MCT oil is a kind of keto supplement processed from fats known as Medium-Chain Triglycerides (MCTs) derived from food substances like coconut or palm kernel oil, but Onnit specializes in pure MCT Oil from coconut.

The unique thing about these fats is the fact that unlike other fats, they metabolize differently. They are broken down very fast in the body and absorbed. It is a characteristic derived from its compact chemical structure. These fats get metabolized very fast and converted into energy used by the body.

The most common fats found in other foods take longer to digest compared to MCT, hence having them stored in the body as fats, known as Long-Chain Triglycerides (LCTs). The principal use of MCT oil is to increase energy generation and the loss of fats in the body. They can be absorbed directly from the digestive system to the liver and metabolized into ketones. A ketogenic diet is a form of dieting where one restrains his/her body from taking carbohydrates and thus inducing it to start producing its energy by burning the fats already stored in the body, a process called ketosis.

Few side effect cases for MCT oils are known. However, like any other oils, these oils should be taken with moderation to achieve the full ketogenic results. Some of the known side effects are issues with vomiting, nausea, stomach upset, and diarrhea if taken in high doses.
